Fields of Mistria introduces a refreshing new feature with its latest update that’s sure to catch players’ attention: animal mounts. Now, while the game’s notoriously rapid day cycle remains unchanged—inevitably leading to those infamous late-night mine blackouts—the addition of a trusty steed could be just the remedy players need. Meet Mistmare, a striking purple horse that can be unlocked once certain criteria are met.
The journey to obtaining Mistmare starts with a quest involving Hayden and a misplaced weathervane. During your search, you’ll encounter a statue, and for 100 essence, Mistmare becomes your companion. Though customization options will eventually come into play, having a horse by your side is an immediate perk. With Mistmare, navigating Fields of Mistria’s sprawling landscape becomes a breeze. Though it might not directly tackle the game’s short day issue, the frequency of passing out after a long mining session is significantly reduced when you can swiftly ride Mistmare back home rather than trudging back on foot.
As per information from the Fields of Mistria wiki, each in-game day spans just 12 minutes and 30 seconds in real-life. This brisk pace becomes even more pressing when tending to animals, as half of your day can easily slip away hopping between barns, collecting eggs, milking cows, and taking care of your animal friends. On top of a rather leisurely walking speed, this leaves scant time for other tasks like crop management, mining expeditions, or socializing with the town’s colorful residents. Mistmare can’t aid directly with many of these chores but offers a handy time-saving solution to traverse the town faster. She’s also beneficial for harvesting crops: by offering essence to the horse statue, you can unlock nifty abilities. For 200 essence, your mount’s speed increases by 10%, and with 190 essence, she can harvest crops simply by running over them, making it a no-click task! Plus, putting up 205 essence lets you ride any large animal you’ve built a substantial bond with.
Mistmare might just be a small aspect of this substantial update, yet she brings about an appreciated quality-of-life improvement that enhances an already outstanding early access game. The update isn’t just about mounts, though. Romance takes center stage now, allowing you to build six heart connections with fellow single villagers, and there’s an enticing new romantic event—the Shooting Star Festival during summer. Though I’m currently experiencing spring in my game, I’m excitedly working towards romancing March, Celine, and Juniper, hoping to take one on an enchanting journey to the mountain peak. For now, I’m at a five-heart standstill, but the fresh dialogues I’ve encountered as I navigate the seasons have been a delightful addition.
Fields of Mistria continues to evolve during its early access phase, with NPC Studio planning to keep it there for at least another year. Besides major updates, the team consistently rolls out minor patches to address bugs and tweak game performance, ensuring a smooth and engaging playing experience.
