Bandai Namco, the well-known Japanese game publisher, has made the decision to close its online division, known as Bandai Namco Online. The somewhat straightforwardly named subsidiary will have its operations absorbed into the broader Bandai Namco group, though the company has not provided details on how this change might impact the current staff involved.
Established in 2009, Bandai Namco Online was specifically created to develop and manage online games, with notable titles like Dragon Ball Z: X KeeperZ, Gundam Evolution, and Blue Protocol under its belt. The decision to dismantle and merge this division has been attributed to recent shifts in the gaming industry landscape, paired with a strategic intent to enhance the overall management of the company’s digital enterprises.
In a related development, Bandai Namco had earlier this year revealed plans to wind down Blue Protocol, an MMO project that involved collaboration with Amazon, with its servers set to go offline on January 18, 2025.
