Recent reports have unveiled the global sales numbers for the latest PlayStation and Xbox Series consoles, shedding light on the performance of these gaming giants.
The Wall Street Journal has detailed this data, beginning with the era of PlayStation 2 and Xbox, where the PS2 reached an impressive 155 million units sold, significantly outpacing the Xbox, which sold 24.7 million units. As we moved into the generation of the PS3 and Xbox 360, the rivalry tightened with the PS3 selling 87.4 million units and the Xbox 360 closely following at 84 million, highlighting only a minimal difference in their popularity.
Fast forward to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One era, the PS4 achieved 117 million in sales, while the Xbox One managed to sell 57.9 million units. The most recent data for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S paints a similar picture, with the PS5 having sold 61.7 million units compared to the Xbox Series X|S’s 28.3 million units, about half of what the PS5 has accomplished.
On social media, these figures have stirred various reactions among fans. While some are focused on Xbox’s less impressive sales numbers, others bring attention to Xbox’s strong performance as a game publisher, suggesting that it’s the hardware that’s causing concerns. There’s also the sentiment among critics that, despite these numbers, Xbox is still worth investing in due to its valuable third-party acquisitions.
The PlayStation 5 has recently rolled out a fresh update, packed with several new features aimed at enhancing user experience. Among these is Party Share, a Welcome Hub, and advanced adaptive charging for controllers, along with customizable 3D audio profiles.
With the Welcome Hub, players can make their console’s home screen unique by selecting different backgrounds and widgets. There are also preset layouts available for even greater personalization. In addition, the adaptive charging feature optimizes power use for controllers when linked to a USB port on the console, which not only aids in energy conservation but also extends the lifespan of the controller’s battery.
For more updates, the development team behind “My Time at Portia” has announced an exciting sequel planned for release on PC, Xbox Series X and S, PS5, and future Nintendo platforms that are yet to be disclosed.
