Over the past few days, it’s been easy to lose sight of the ongoing Illuminate invasion in Helldivers 2, thanks to the uproar surrounding the pricing of the game’s Killzone crossover gear. Despite this distraction, the alien threat persists, and their next move might just postpone your chance to try out a new vehicle.
Remember the Omens of Tyranny update that announced Helldivers 2’s first drivable vehicle, the Fast Reconnaissance Vehicle or FRV? Well, the enemies have their sights set on it, and players suspect something larger may be at stake.
Reports indicate that the AM Defense Factory Hub on Achernar Secundus is under attack by the Illuminate, jeopardizing both the production of the FRV and the lives of many colonists. The latest Major Order from Arrowhead warns that if these attackers aren’t stopped, FRV distribution will suffer major delays. Players swiftly rallied, heading towards Achernar Secundus, only to realize it’s not far from Meridia—that infamous planet that got transformed into a purple black hole last June.
Interestingly, players have noticed some changes to this black hole coinciding with the deployment of the Killzone crossover. It now appears darker and has developed more floating elements, sparking speculation that the Illuminate might soon focus on Meridia, possibly using it for reinforcements.
This theory isn’t without merit, given that many have speculated since earlier this year that the black hole could serve as the Illuminate’s entry point into the game. Yet, Arrowhead remains skeptical.
In response to these speculations, the studio has issued an in-game alert advising players: “Some Helldivers may have detected new electromagnetic phenomena around the Meridia Black Hole. Rest assured, High Command is fully aware of this situation, and experts are closely monitoring it. Helldivers should remain focused on repelling the Illuminate threat.”
So, the message is clear: let the experts handle it. Things on Meridia will probably work out just fine. And if anything does go down soon with the black hole, players will be well-equipped, thanks to Arrowhead’s decision to respond to the pricing backlash by offering the second part of the Killzone crossover gear for free.
