It’s been a while, but the Savage Planet series is making a comeback! We’re diving into the second installment, with the same team, same franchise, and a fresh new name: Raccoon Logic.
Previously known as Typhoon Studios, we brought you Journey to the Savage Planet back in 2020, which you can still find in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. Now, gear up for our sci-fi co-op adventure, Revenge of the Savage Planet, as we prepare for launch on PS5 and PS4 in May 2025. This new chapter tells the quirky survival tale of explorers who keep themselves amused to a nearly perilous extent.
Get ready to construct and personalize your own habitat, venture across alien terrains, and catalog everything you stumble upon as you seek ways to endure. Our sequel showcases more planets, offering an expansive and vibrant universe. With co-op available right from the start and a new third-person perspective, you’ll be running, jumping, shooting, and collecting across four lively planets. You’ll craft, upgrade your skills, and uncover hidden mysteries as you go.
Today, we’re excited to introduce a fifth, secret planet teeming with not-so-ordinary creatures. Some of our team members will share insights into the design philosophies that drove its creation.
First, take a look at the video below!
In this fresh world, exploration remains key! You’ll capture creatures, swim through lakes, scale mountains, grind on rails, and uncover a secret lair of delights. This new world introduces an interior domain, a stark contrast to our natural open worlds, with the intent of keeping our environment anything but predictable. Let’s hear from some of our team members about this:
A World Inspired by Retro Arcades and ’90s Entertainment
"Stacked with new challenges, unexpected heights, and uniquely altered creatures, this final world addresses all the unanswered questions of the game," says Studio Head Reid Schneider.
"Our digital contrast serves as a story device, reinforcing the mystery that extends beyond the natural vistas of our planets. We express Slappi’s character through this shadowy and perilous lair he’s crafted. Naturally, we’ve retained all the quirky, outlandish alien creatures our fans love," adds Lead Designer Steve Masters.
Cameron Jarvis, our Audio Director, shares, "The sound design took a contrasting path as well, veering from our usual instrumentation to a distinctly digital production. We began with a sound reminiscent of a pinball machine combined with a game show set, but it evolved into an experience of being inside a giant computer with ’80s bit sparkles."
"We aimed to infuse an element of fun, and robot toys naturally offer intrigue and entertainment! We drew inspiration from various retro arcade games to develop this nostalgic atmosphere, incorporating a hard surface modeling style with retro neon colors as a nod to ’90s entertainment," explains Art Director Erick Bilodeau.
Local and Online Co-op
Revenge of the Savage Planet offers multiple play options, including online co-op with cross-play and couch co-op in split-screen mode. Not in the mood to share a couch with someone? We also have a single-player mode!
"Our systematic design encourages remarkable interactions and experiences that invite exploration and experimentation. This is interwoven throughout the world, characters, and your entire gameplay. Each time you play, you’re bound to discover something new and engage in the experience differently," says Producer Noemie L’Ecuyer.
