Marvel made quite the splash during the Super Bowl with a fresh trailer for their much-anticipated Thunderbolts movie, set to hit theaters in just under three months. Despite the excitement, the film’s plot remains shrouded in mystery. The teaser that dropped last September didn’t reveal much, and while the latest trailer offers a tad more insight, it’s still keeping things pretty close to the chest. The standout feature of this preview is a sneak peek at Sentry, portrayed by Lewis Pullman, who fans may remember from the first trailer under the guise of “Bob”—a part clearly intended to mislead audiences.
The new clip doesn’t provide a comprehensive look at Sentry, offering just fleeting glimpses of him showcasing his superhuman powers against the film’s patchwork team of anti-heroes and some bystanders. It’s likely Marvel is playing with expectations, perhaps even introducing a different villain since Sentry is known as a hero in the comics. Furthermore, if the ominous undertones of the trailer are anything to go by, there’s a strong chance we’ll see the Void, Sentry’s dark counterpart, make an appearance—especially considering there are still a couple of cast members whose roles haven’t been disclosed yet.
In terms of official details, Marvel describes the plot as featuring a unique squad of antiheroes—Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and John Walker (Wyatt Russell)—who find themselves trapped in a deadly setup by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). This disillusioned bunch must carry out a risky mission that forces them to face the darkest parts of their past. The question remains: will this ragtag team fall apart or seek redemption to unite before time runs out?
The information is admittedly sparse, but all will be revealed when Thunderbolts makes its big-screen debut on May 2. Keep your eyes peeled.
