Recently, NetherRealm Studios gave us our first look at Mortal Kombat 1’s new guest character, the T-1000 from the Terminator series. As you might expect, his debut is nothing short of intense!
For those of you on the younger side, the Terminator saga—a mix of original films, sequels, spin-offs, and reboots—might not hold a spot in your movie experiences. Yet, those who have seen Terminator 2 will surely remember the T-1000, brought to life through Robert Patrick’s memorable and menacing performance. NetherRealm revealed not too long ago that this iconic character would be stepping into the Mortal Kombat universe. Just recently, over the weekend, they unveiled a glimpse of his gameplay. Spoiler alert: it’s looking promising. Plus, Robert Patrick returns to lend his voice and likeness to the character, which adds an authentic touch.
The studio has embraced the T-1000’s unique ability to morph its liquid-metal form into a variety of shapes, as showcased in the trailer. While I might not be the biggest Mortal Kombat fan due to its age-old violent flair, I must admit that playing as the T-1000 seems like a blast. However, the same can’t be said for its Fatality move. Picture this: a long-haul truck reminiscent of the one in Terminator 2 barrels into Johnny Cage, the beloved character, followed by a barrage of bullets. It’s a brutal reminder to always check both directions before crossing a street—well, at least in this game!
As an added treat, Madam Bo makes a return as a new Kameo character. Introduced during the main game’s story, it’s exciting to see her become playable. Khaos Reigns DLC owners can download her for free starting March 18, and if you prefer, she’s also available as a separate purchase. Similarly, T-1000 will be accessible to Khaos Reigns owners on March 18 and available individually from March 25.
Overall, this latest addition to Mortal Kombat offers exciting new avenues for gameplay while nodding to classic cinema history.
