Virtuix is taking a significant step into the realm of virtual reality tourism with the launch of its new app designed for the Omni One VR treadmill. This pioneering move allows users to stroll through some of the world’s most renown attractions without leaving the comfort of their own home.
Scheduled for release on March 6th, the app, known as TREKS, leverages immersive video technology and couples it with physical movement. This innovative experience transports you to celebrated spots like the Grand Canyon, the vibrant expanse of New York’s Central Park, or the historic corridors of Riyadh’s Fort Masmak.
TREKS, developed by Virtuix Studios—the company’s in-house creative team—will be exclusively accessible through the Omni One Game Store at a price of $30. Upon its debut, the app will feature four primary destinations including:
- Grand Canyon: Discover the serene paths and awe-inspiring views of this geological masterpiece.
- Niagara Falls: Witness the majestic power of the falls from both American and Canadian vantage points.
- New York City: Embark on an urban adventure through iconic sites such as the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saudi Arabia: Immerse yourself in the cultural richness of Fort Masmak along with the architectural magnificence of Al Rajhi Mosque.
The studio promises additional sites are in the pipeline as downloadable content, with plans to feature more landmarks, historic places, and stunning natural landscapes. Moreover, Virtuix asserts that an hour of exploring in TREKS can burn approximately 500 calories, making it a dynamic blend of fitness and exploration.
“With TREKS, you’re doing more than just viewing these extraordinary destinations—you’re immersing yourself in them,” explained Virtuix CEO Jan Goetgeluk. “It’s an innovative way to keep fit while virtually voyaging through some of the planet’s most iconic spots. The synergy of fitness and discovery is exemplified in TREKS.”
At a cost of $3,495, the Omni One package offers the VR treadmill accompanied by a tailored Pico 4 Enterprise headset. This setup is versatile, supporting both standalone apps thanks to its internal hardware and PC-connected VR experiences, whether wired or wireless.
This new app follows a recent update that expanded the Omni One’s game library to over 55 titles, featuring notable entries such as the Arizona Sunshine Remake and Into the Radius. The system also boasts compatibility with SteamVR games, utilizing the Omni Connect PC Driver that lets users customize controls and fine-tune settings for non-native immersive walking experiences.
