Studio Fizbin, the creative force behind Reignbreaker, is set to close its doors later this month. This surprising announcement was made on their website and quickly caught the attention of Game Developer. The closure is scheduled to happen right after the release of Reignbreaker on March 18th. According to Founder and CEO Alexander Pieper, the decision stems largely from Thunderful’s choice to “dramatically scale back internal development.”
“The gaming industry is facing challenging times, and we’ve been hit just like many other amazing studios recently,” Pieper explained.
He elaborated further, “In November 2024, our parent company, Thunderful, decided to significantly cut down on internal projects, a move communicated by Thunderful’s CEO Martin in the latest quarterly report, which unfortunately also impacted Studio Fizbin. Since that time, we’ve been looking into different opportunities to pursue post-Reignbreaker, but sadly, none have come to fruition, leading us to make this tough call.”
Pieper went on to express heartfelt gratitude: “To our fans, thank you for supporting us through your purchases, fan art, comments, reviews, passion, and your seemingly boundless support.”
“We also owe a debt of gratitude to our business partners, Medienboard, the MfG, Creative Europe, and federal funding partners for their unwavering support.”
“And lastly, the biggest thank you goes to our team—those who are with us till the very end and those who have already ventured onto new paths. Fizbin and its games were brought to life by our talented team, and you have all turned this into a place where we achieved the spectacular feat of crafting games.”
