MSI has stepped in to dismiss rumors surrounding alleged issues with NVIDIA’s RTX 5090, particularly claims about a potential recall due to fire hazards. They’ve made it clear that the retailer spreading these allegations is not an official partner.
MSI and NVIDIA Denounce Fire Hazard Allegations on RTX 5090s
Recently, a surprising report emerged from a Dutch retailer alleging that NVIDIA was recalling its GeForce RTX 5090 models over fire hazard concerns. The retailer claimed that an MSI SUPRIM model was part of this recall, causing quite a stir in the gaming community and sending many into a panic. But, in an official press release, MSI has moved quickly to set the record straight. Here’s what they had to say:
“We were taken aback on March 6, 2025, by an article on the website Kitguru, where a Dutch retailer, UW GAME SPECIALIST, supposedly informed a customer they couldn’t fulfill their order for the GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC due to a recall for fire risks,” MSI stated.
MSI continued, “We want to make it absolutely clear that these claims are entirely false. There is no recall program in place, and our products are not at risk of catching fire. Furthermore, the retailer in question is not affiliated with MSI as a partner.”
The company didn’t hold back on the potential consequences for those spreading these unverified claims. “We reserve the right to undertake legal actions against those spreading baseless allegations that damage our brand, as well as anyone assisting in circulating these rumors.”
For consumers, MSI recommends sticking to purchases through authorized resellers, listing names such as Megekko, Azerty, Coolblue, and others to ensure genuine and safe products.
This clarification should put to rest any anxiety about the RTX 5090 having another critical issue. If there had indeed been a fire hazard, it would have likely been linked to the power connector. NVIDIA has already been grappling with supply chain challenges and other technical glitches like missing ROPs and black screen incidents in the RTX 50 series.
No immediate reason for concern seems to exist for RTX 5090 owners fearing spontaneous combustion, according to MSI’s assurances. Yet, as always, it’s prudent to handle the flagship RTX Blackwell GPU with care during installation.
