Apple has officially announced that its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is set to begin on June 9th, and anticipation is building around what’s expected to be a major reveal: the Vision Pro’s next operating system update, visionOS 3.
This year’s event will be held online from June 9th through the 13th, but all eyes are on the big keynote on June 9th. During this livestream, Apple traditionally unveils a slew of software updates.
While Apple is keeping specific details of the WWDC25 announcements under wraps, history tells us to expect significant updates for their major platforms including iOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS. Typically, these unveilings come with early access for developers and are rolled out to the public by the fall.
Although specifics about visionOS 3 remain unknown, a Bloomberg piece from earlier this month suggested the update will be quite substantial. Given the pattern established with visionOS 2 unveiled at last year’s WWDC24, you can bet on new features aimed at boosting productivity. Additionally, there’s the possibility that Apple will finally confirm the rumors of its collaboration with Sony to introduce PSVR 2 controller support to Vision Pro.
It’s worth mentioning that Apple’s $3,500 mixed reality headset debuted without motion controllers. This has pushed developers to modify existing XR applications to align with Vision Pro’s hand and eye-tracking features or to build entirely new projects.
As always, WWDC25 will be free for developers and students. However, Apple is also holding an exclusive in-person event at its Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino on June 9th. This includes one-on-one time with Apple experts and some special activities. There’s limited availability for this, so be sure to check out how to secure your spot.
