Warner Bros, a major player in the entertainment industry, has reportedly decided to pull the plug on an expansion for Hogwarts Legacy.
According to Bloomberg, this expansion was initially slated to launch alongside a planned Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter action RPG, which promised exciting new storylines. However, Warner Bros scrapped the project due to concerns that the additional content wasn’t substantial enough to justify the proposed price point. The expansion was being developed by Avalanche Software, the original creators of the game, with support from Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is said to be currently working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
Meanwhile, Rocksteady has recently faced layoffs following its decision to cease further development on the 2024 title, Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League.
Last year, Warner Bros acknowledged that its gaming division was falling short of performance expectations. That revelation came alongside a hefty $200 million write-off associated with Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League. The company has also shut down three of its studios, including Monolith, and has seen the departure of its long-standing executive, David Haddad.
