The indie team at Flip Axis Studios is stepping into the spotlight with their latest announcement: a multiplayer VR skateboarding game. This exciting title, designed for Quest 3 and SteamVR, promises to deliver a realistic skating experience without the usual risk of injuries like sprained ankles or broken bones.
Named Virtual Skate, this game is set to push the boundaries of skateboarding games. What makes it stand out is the unique feature of providing players with full 3D control over their feet using their hands, creating a more immersive gameplay experience.
Additionally, the game boasts a physics-based system that allows for board control and trick styling in ways that go beyond traditional animation limitations. Although details are still emerging, a teaser has revealed an in-game recording feature, letting players capture their friends’ feats during multiplayer sessions.
Adding to the game’s appeal, it’s being developed by Jon West, a key figure in the industry, known for co-founding Easy Day Studios and leading the development of the skating game Skater XL in 2020. While an official launch date hasn’t been announced, the studio hints that Virtual Skate will be hitting Quest 3 and SteamVR headsets “soon.”
Until then, we’re eagerly watching their website for any updates on store links and release dates. There’s also a buzz on the game’s Discord channel, which could offer sneak peeks or opportunities for beta testing down the line.
