Microsoft has rolled out an exciting new feature called Copilot Vision, and it’s now available for free in Microsoft Edge. Currently, this feature is exclusive to users in the United States, so if you’re stateside, go ahead and give it a spin.
Previously, to use Copilot Vision, you needed a Copilot Pro subscription. But now, if you’re using Microsoft Edge, you can access it without any cost. That’s a nice little perk for Edge users.
With Copilot Vision, you’ll get some pretty unique insights into whatever’s on your screen. It’s still in the early stages, with compatibility limited to just nine websites. Right now, you can use it when browsing popular sites like Wikipedia, Amazon, and Tripadvisor, among others. However, Microsoft plans to expand the number of compatible sites over time to improve the tool’s versatility.
“Copilot Vision is out now, free in Edge,” announced Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of AI at Microsoft. “It literally can see what you see on the screen—and if you opt in, it’s like your thought partner while you’re online. No more over-explaining, copy-pasting, or struggling for the right words.”
One of the coolest aspects of Copilot Vision is its voice optimization. This means you can go hands-free and naturally interact with the AI, which can be pretty handy. Imagine having a recipe open on Food & Wine and receiving real-time advice from Copilot as you cook. Of course, if you prefer, you can still type your questions to Copilot.
While these types of AI features can be incredibly useful, they aren’t without their controversy, especially regarding privacy. Following the backlash from Microsoft’s Windows Recall, which faced delays because of privacy and security concerns, Microsoft is taking a careful approach with Copilot Vision’s rollout.
Both Copilot Vision and Windows Recall are optional, needing explicit user activation to operate. Given the concerns, it’s wise for Microsoft to include transparent security measures to reassure users.
Whether you’re a gaming enthusiast or just someone who enjoys the latest tech offerings, these developments in AI tools provide a fascinating glimpse into the future of digital interaction.
