Nintendo has just announced that pre-orders for the eagerly anticipated Switch 2 will kick off in the U.S. on April 24. The pricing remains consistent with previous announcements, where the base model will retail for $449.99, while a bundle featuring the popular Mario Kart World will set you back $499.99.
Initially, the pre-order date faced delays after the console’s introduction. The company wanted to gauge how tariffs and dynamic market conditions might influence its sales strategy. Now, it appears Nintendo is ready to move forward.
Interestingly, some of the Switch 2’s accessories have seen price hikes. For instance, the set of Joy-Con 2 controllers was initially marked at $89.99 but will now run for $94.99. Similarly, the Pro Controller will see a jump from $79.99 to $84.99. Other accessories like the camera, dock set, wheel set, and charging grips are also slated for price increases.
Interestingly, Nintendo stated that future price changes for their products could occur depending on the evolving market situation. The Switch 2 officially hits the shelves on June 5, keeping fans on their toes.
The original pre-order date was meant to be April 9 but was pushed back because the announcement coincided with President Donald Trump’s unveiling of a comprehensive tariff strategy. Following this, a temporary 90-day halt was called on many tariffs, although this excluded increased tariffs on goods imported from China.
Notably, game prices remain steady. The much-anticipated Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banaza, slated for a July 17 release, maintain their current pricing at $79.99 and $69.99 respectively.
The Switch 2 is certainly not just a simple upgrade. It boasts several significant enhancements over its predecessor, such as a larger HDR display, an additional USB Type-C port, and Nvidia’s more robust graphics chip under the hood.
Priced at $449.99, it’s a noticeable increase from the original Switch’s $299.99 launch price. Understandably, this has prompted many fans to passionately urge Nintendo to reconsider the pricing on various platforms and forums.
In its announcement, Nintendo expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the pre-order delay, hoping this reassures customers during uncertain times.
