Electronic Arts is known for keeping its annual game series across different console generations, even years after new consoles come out. However, the time has come once again for one of their beloved sports franchises to move on, leaving older consoles in the past. The latest installment will soon be available exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, marking a new chapter for fans.
Madden NFL 26 won’t be making its way to PS4, as Electronic Arts revealed today. Set to launch on August 14 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, this new entry in the famed football series is breaking tradition by skipping the PS4 and Xbox One entirely. For gamers still loyal to last-gen consoles, this signals the curtain call on their Madden NFL journey.
Although this generation’s Madden NFL games haven’t had as many cross-gen releases, the tally isn’t much different from the transition between PS3 and PS4. Back then, only four Madden titles bridged the gap. The PS2 era, in contrast, boasted six cross-generation releases between 2006 and 2012. Given that the PS5 has been around for nearly five years now, it’s no shocker that Electronic Arts is focusing forward with Madden NFL 26.
In tandem with Madden NFL 26, Electronic Arts announced that College Football 26 is set to debut on July 10 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Enthusiasts of this revived franchise can once again get their college football fix on the newest consoles.
For fans eager to play both games, the MVP bundle offers a tempting package. This includes the Deluxe Edition of each game, along with perks like three-days early access and the On the Clock Pack, featuring a top-rated 99 overall Travis Hunter player item. Starting April 29, players can preorder this bundle and secure their early jump into the action.
