Upon its initial release, Star Wars Outlaws had its fair share of challenges. The game was overwhelmed by too much mandatory stealth, enemy AI that was frustratingly inconsistent, and a host of technical issues. These problems overshadowed what could have been an incredible gaming experience. However, Ubisoft has been hard at work, dedicating significant effort to smoothing out these rough patches. Thanks to these improvements, the game now has a chance to truly showcase the elements that made fans excited in the first place.
One of the standout aspects of Star Wars Outlaws is its breathtakingly crafted environments that feel entirely true to the Star Wars universe. This immersive atmosphere perfectly complements the game’s unique storyline, which dives into the galaxy’s underworld—a part of Star Wars lore that doesn’t often get the spotlight in mainstream narratives. Although a follow-up game might seem unlikely due to sales not hitting the mark, there’s still hope for a sequel that would find its niche in this universe.
Moving on, setting a sequel after the events of “Return of the Jedi” seems like a promising direction. The TV series, The Mandalorian, along with its spin-offs, has already painted an intriguing picture of life after the fall of the Empire, focusing particularly on how the galaxy’s criminal element has flourished. During this turbulent era, the New Republic is still finding its feet, leaving a power vacuum that pirates, smugglers, and bounty hunters are all too eager to fill.
The Book of Boba Fett gives us further insights, depicting how various syndicates adapt and thrive post-Empire. Despite losing their leader, the Hutt Cartel persists under Bib Fortuna, while the Pykes assert their dominance over Tatooine, exploiting its rich spice supply.
A sequel to Star Wars Outlaws could seamlessly pick up in the aftermath, echoing the gritty vibe of The Mandalorian. With only about six years passing since the original story, a more seasoned and resilient Kay Vess would be navigating the treacherous waters of a galaxy reshaped by new and old crime lords. This setting would present opportunities to run into characters from both the original game and the broader Star Wars saga.
The story’s climax sees bounty hunter Vail poised to claim a top spot within the bounty hunting guild—a development hinging on the codex she received from Kay. Fast forward six years, and it’s plausible to imagine Vail leading the guild, setting the stage for cameo appearances from iconic figures such as Cad Bane, Fennec Shand, and even Din Djarin, alongside key guild leaders like Greef Karga. This setup could provide a rich tapestry of storytelling potential for the franchise to explore further.
