GOG, the popular digital platform for classic and DRM-free PC games, is rolling out an exciting new feature that lets you, the gaming community, have a say in what titles get released next. Introducing the GOG Dreamlist, a revamped version of their familiar community voting, now transformed into a comprehensive tool where you can suggest, recommend, and share your personal gaming stories.
According to their FAQ section, GOG plans to leverage the data from the most popular votes to negotiate with intellectual property owners. This could eventually bring those highly-coveted games to their collection. While they can’t provide progress updates on each game, they’re developing a feature so you can keep track of the ones you voted for as they become available.
Each game on GOG Dreamlist will have its dedicated page where you can cast your vote and narrate your experiences with it. The aim is for these heartfelt stories to stay visible even after a game is released, as stated in their FAQ: “We’re working on a solution to migrate Stories to GOG.COM game cards once the game is released: we won’t let them get lost.”
In another initiative, GOG has launched the GOG Preservation Program to ensure that older games remain playable on modern systems. As of now, this program includes 102 titles like Fallout: New Vegas, Diablo, and Resident Evil 2. Even games that have been delisted, such as Warcraft and Warcraft 2, will continue to be downloadable indefinitely. Their ultimate goal is to integrate all games into this preservation effort.
To sweeten the launch of GOG Dreamlist, they’ve added Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 to their catalog, and both are part of the Preservation Program.
