HOOP-O Studios, an up-and-coming indie developer focused on mixed reality games, is all set to launch its new remote-controlled dogfighting game, Alex and the Jets, on Quest 3 next month.
Designed as a laid-back arcade flying experience, this game puts you in control of Alex the Squirrel and their small, fixed-wing propeller plane. Throughout the game, members of ‘The Jets’ gang will emerge from portals in your walls, challenging you to shoot them down while soaring through donut-shaped rings that offer weapon power-ups and health boosts.
But it’s not all about combat. The game also has a free roam mode, allowing you to fly around your room at your own pace, without any pressure. Plus, you can keep track of your skills with local leaderboards and customize your experience by unlocking new outfits for Alex at the in-game store.
One interesting tidbit from HOOP-O is that all the gameplay footage in the trailer (which you can view below) was captured on-device using the headset’s camera—pretty reassuring if you’re thinking about picking it up.
While there’s no official release date yet, the studio aims to launch Alex and the Jets on the Horizon Store this April, with compatibility for Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets.
