Greetings, Xbox enthusiasts! Excited to bring you some fantastic news—our latest game, Overthrown, is gearing up to make its grand entrance into Xbox Game Preview for the Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 5, and it’ll be available through Game Pass. Now, if you’re catching a glimpse of Overthrown for the first time, let’s fill you in: this isn’t your average city builder. Our game thrives on unpredictability, and adding a unique flair, you’ll get to play as a character straight out of an anime, complete with superhero powers, alongside a squad of up to five friends. But don’t worry, the core of the game is still about constructing your city, defending it from mutants and bandits, and managing it effectively. Today, I’m here to share some insider tips to get the most out of your co-op gameplay.
First, a bit of scene-setting. You’re bestowed with an ancient, magical crown that grants soul-stealing abilities. In essence, you can lift anything in sight, be it towering trees or pesky monster nests. Transporting a whole sawmill through the forest while gobbling up trees as you go? Absolutely possible. You’re essentially a powerhouse with boundless strength! Plus, you’re equipped with jaw-dropping speed, an epic throw, and a whirlwind spin attack that sends you soaring sky-high, helicopter-style. Now, imagine harnessing this power with up to five friends—just think of the antics you can get up to!
Looking to hit the ground running? Here are some tips to elevate your co-op playtime.
### One Crown to Rule Them All
Join a co-op game, and the coveted Crown shows up on the map, ready for anyone to claim. It’s a race to reach it first! While everyone gets to enjoy Crown powers, the wearer of the Crown enjoys a bigger crown charge stash, letting them pull off dazzling moves more swiftly. Collaboration is key, but a little friendly rivalry never hurts, right? Keep an eye out for moments when the mighty Crown gets nabbed or lost—these could be golden opportunities for friendly competition. The Crown can end up in the hands of foes like a Tuskar or an Outlaw, and it’s up to you and your crew to reclaim it. Whoever retrieves it gets an extra perk. Remember, Overthrown isn’t about PvP, so don’t even consider backstabbing your teammate for the Crown!
### Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Teamwork is crucial. The more workstations you set up, the quicker new citizens join your settlement. Co-op play lets you divvy up different zones and districts amongst friends to speed up citizen recruitment. Maybe building is your thing while your buddy thrives in combat—no worries there! Dividing tasks based on preferences makes for a smooth, efficient team dynamic.
### Experiment
Lastly, don’t shy away from experimentation. Curiosity was the driving force behind Overthrown’s creation. We want players to be constantly asking, “Can I do this?” or “What will happen if I try that?” And the answers? A big, enthusiastic “Yes, you can!” coupled with “Go ahead and try it out!” We’re embedding as much interactivity as possible to surprise you, evoke playfulness, and spark goofy fun moments because that’s the magic of gaming with friends!
We hope Overthrown sounds like your kind of fun and that you’re excited to dive in, whether solo or with mates. Currently in Game Preview, Overthrown is being shaped with community input, and we’d love you to be part of this journey. Mark your calendars for December 5 when the adventure kicks off on Xbox Game Preview and Game Pass for Xbox consoles and PC.
Note: Initially, we mentioned a December 10 release for Overthrown; that’s been updated to December 5.
