For fans of retro Sims, EA and Maxis have pulled a delightful surprise out of the bag just in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic series. Remember those whispers about re-releasing the first two Sims games? Well, they’re true, and the games are being launched for sale today.
The buzz had it that EA was planning to make these classics available digitally for PC by the end of January. True to those whispers, they hit the market on January 31, sneaking in just before the weekend. Talk about perfect timing.
These re-releases, known as The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, are accessible through the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam. Plus, fans can grab them together in a special Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
In a heartfelt message, EA shared their excitement saying, “To celebrate our legacy and honor the incredible fans that have been with us along the way, we’re re-releasing two fan-favorite titles that contain familiar neighborhoods and beloved characters – such as the sneaky burglar, unpredictable genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown – that started it all.” They invite players to “Rediscover the nostalgia and magic of the classics that welcomed so many of you into our amazing community.”
Now, let’s talk about pricing: it’s $39.99 if you’re picking up the bundle, $19.99 for just The Sims: Legacy Collection, and $29.99 for The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. These come loaded with most of the original expansion packs, though, sadly, The Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack didn’t make the cut.
A bummer, I know, but you still get your hands on two different holiday packs along with the game, and the H&M Fashion Stuff pack for a touch of brand flair. Included in these re-releases are The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit with the first game and Grunge Revival Kit with the second, adding some fresh flavor to your collection if you missed them earlier.
So, if you need a break from lounging in EA’s quirky “meme jacuzzi” from their Y2K themed site set up for these celebrations, it’s time to dry off and dive into these classic re-releases. Go ahead and check them out—you won’t want to miss it!
