Brand-new Xbox consoles are now up for grabs through preorder, and here’s everything you need to know to get ahead of the game.
Back in June at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft teased us with a peek at their latest Xbox lineup. Now, they’ve let the cat out of the bag: the official release date is set, and preorders are live for three exciting Xbox models.
First on the list, we have the mighty 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X, which will set you back $599.99. Next, there’s the all-digital Series X in a sleek Robot White at $449.99. Finally, the 1TB Series S comes in Robot White for $349.99. Mark your calendars, because these consoles are going to make their debut in the U.S. on Tuesday, October 15, according to an Xbox Wire announcement. Worried about holiday stock running dry? You can secure a preorder through the Microsoft Store starting today, August 21.
Topping the lineup is the Special Edition Series X. This standout piece, with its doubled storage and distinctive lime green-on-black speckled design, is sure to turn heads. Microsoft likes to say this “celestial effect [represents] thousands of games and millions of gamers playing on Xbox.” Personally, I think it boasts a bit of flair. Plus, it’s paired with an exclusive Xbox Wireless Controller featuring a stylish green back.
In another bold move, the Robot White Series X ditches the disc drive, marking a first for Microsoft’s flagship consoles. This brings it closer to the Series S in terms of format, though the Series X still packs a mightier punch in terms of performance. This version is $50 less expensive than the standard black Series X capable of playing physical games, and it comes with a matching controller for a cohesive look.
On the more straightforward side of things, the new 1TB Series S simply introduces a fresh paint job. We’ve seen the 1TB Carbon Black Series S before, circulating since last fall. However, it looks like this version is on its way out. Microsoft’s announcement hinted that “fans can still purchase [it] while supplies last,” which suggests it’s becoming a rare find, primarily available from third-party retailers. If you’re eyeing it through the Microsoft Store, you’ll only find refurbished models on offer.
Whether you’re looking to upgrade or trying to snag the perfect gift, these new Xbox consoles certainly set the stage for an exciting release this October.
