Unlike the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, there’s going to be no DLC for Rebirth, but it’s not because the director is simply ignoring it. Fans who were eagerly anticipating a potential DLC drop following the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, akin to what happened with Remake, can now have their curiosity satisfied. In a recent chat with the Daily Star, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director, clarified that DLC isn’t on the cards, but there’s a reason behind this decision. “We definitely do hear the desire from the fans,” Hamaguchi acknowledged when discussing the clamor for DLC. “I completely understand, but from my viewpoint, what fans truly want to see is the completion of the series. They’re eager to witness the third part as soon as possible,” he said.
That’s why the development team has chosen not to allocate resources towards creating additional episodes for DLC right now. “We are wholly committed to speeding up the release of the third game,” Hamaguchi emphasized. That seems like a pretty reasonable explanation, right?
Now, Remake’s Yuffie DLC served as a neat transition between games. When thinking about standalone adventures in Rebirth, characters like Cid and Vincent Valentine come to mind. But honestly, crafting something worthwhile in that format might be a challenge. There’s also the possibility that Square Enix is eyeing a Dirge of Cerberus remaster, similar to the Crisis Core: Reunion. Fingers crossed for all the Dirge enthusiasts out there!
I also caught up with Hamaguchi earlier this week, specifically about what to expect with mini-games in the third and final installment. Don’t worry, he plans on shaking things up a bit. So, stay tuned for more exciting tweaks!
