Monster Hunter Wilds has finally made its grand entrance, and it seems to be living up to the hype. Critics, including myself, are singing its praises, and it’s clear that players are on board too, given the millions who eagerly jumped in from day one. However, it’s worth mentioning that the launch hasn’t been entirely smooth.
If you can look past several performance hiccups and technical glitches, not to mention a newly unearthed story progression bug, there’s still the matter of microtransactions to consider. To be fair, Wilds isn’t nearly as heavy on these as something like Dragon’s Dogma 2, yet there’s one particular item that’s been getting under players’ skin.
A significant amount of dissatisfaction has been directed toward Capcom due to their decision to charge for Character and Palico Edit Vouchers. As the name implies, these vouchers give you the freedom to tweak your Hunter or Palico in the character creator. While Capcom does provide one free voucher for each, offering you a one-time chance to make edits, anything beyond that will cost you.
This setup does seem a bit unreasonable, even if it’s not unfamiliar to seasoned Capcom game veterans, particularly those who’ve played previous Monster Hunter titles. But gamers, being the resourceful lot they are, weren’t keen on sticking to these constraints. Enter a crafty player who developed a mod to bypass these limits.
The cleverly named Unlimited Character and Palico Edits mod, created by Ridog8, delivers exactly what it promises. It requires the free Edit Vouchers to function but cleverly resets their usage count to zero each time. This effectively grants unlimited uses. However, there is an inherent risk with mods, especially since many players will be engaging with Wilds online. So, proceed with caution if you choose to download and use it.
To use this mod, you’ll first need the REFramework, a toolkit that anyone looking to mod Wilds will find indispensable. It’s a variant of a similar toolkit used for previous Monster Hunter games, so if you’re experienced with those, you should be in familiar territory.
