Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Displeased with Tanya’s New Look

Tanya’s latest skin in Mortal Kombat 1 has left fans feeling less than thrilled. The intention was to blend styles reminiscent of the 1993 Mortal Kombat 2 era with influences from a later installment, but the outcome has been rather disappointing. Many in the player community are puzzled as to why Tanya sports hairstyles tied to Mortal Kombat 4 when her appearance is supposed to channel elements from an installment she never even featured in—MK2.

Mortal Kombat 1, the 12th major release in the franchise, continues to keep players engaged since its 2023 launch. The game has already expanded with the Khaos Reigns update, and according to Ed Boon, the studio isn’t slowing down any time soon. The new design for Tanya’s skin, which is now up for grabs in the MK1 store, shows her clad in a mainly yellow outfit. Despite attempts to offer different color variations, fans are not pleased. The hairstyle doesn’t fit the MK2 vibe, instead mimicking her MK4 look, leaving players perplexed given her absence in the earlier game. This misalignment in presentation seems to have missed the mark according to the game’s devoted player base.

Yet again, some players argue they would have favored a pure MK4 inspiration for Tanya rather than guessing at what she might have looked like in a game she was never part of, pointing out these choices result in lackluster cosmetic work.

Adding to the skins debate, a leak suggests festive costumes might soon be available for characters like Frost and Sareena, adorning them in holiday lights. Characters such as Ermac and Rain are slated for updates too. However, given past reactions, it’s expected the community won’t shy away from sharing candid opinions on these future skins.
