After a long stretch where I was able to enjoy Nintendo Switch Online without spending actual money, a notable feature is wrapping up, coinciding with the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X. Plus, another feature won’t carry forward to the anticipated Switch 2.
In tonight’s announcement, Nintendo revealed that the My Nintendo Gold program is set to end on March 25, precisely at 12:59 a.m. ET. This initiative allowed users to earn 1% back in eShop credit on physical first-party games during their first year after release, alongside an automatic 5% return on all eShop buys. However, there’s a small reprieve for physical games released in the year starting March 25, 2024, until their end date; this includes titles like Endless Ocean: Luminous and Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Sadly, games such as Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t meet the criteria.
On another front, Nintendo has updated the support page concerning Switch Online Vouchers, clarifying that this program won’t be compatible with upcoming Switch 2 games. Originally, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers could snag pairs of these vouchers for $99, using them for first-party releases. While the vouchers will still be usable for future original Switch releases, including Legends Z-A and Prime 4, they won’t be an option for the next-gen console offerings.
