Mysterious Developer Unveils ‘Dream Features’ and Future Vision

Enshrouded, the imaginative creation from Keen Games, is evolving, with the developers eager to enrich player and NPC interactions. During a recent AMA, the team’s representatives revealed exciting plans for upcoming enhancements to the game.

Enshrouded made its debut on PC via Steam Early Access in late January 2024 and quickly captured the interest of gamers. It reached an impressive peak of over 160,000 simultaneous players shortly after its launch and continues to engage tens of thousands daily nearly a year later.

Recently, Keen Games conducted a Reddit AMA to mark the approaching one-year anniversary of Enshrouded. This event provided a sneak peek into the minds of the game’s developers, particularly those from the level design team, who shared their vision for what they describe as “dream features.” Developer Maracujahaha expressed enthusiasm over introducing NPC interactions—a feature not yet realized but firmly planned for the future. The team is also buzzing with ideas about adding dynamic weather systems and enabling emergent gameplay through movable objects and trap setting.

There’s a palpable excitement about expanding interaction possibilities within Enshrouded. TopCat, another developer, shared their aspirations for incorporating elements like water, traps, and novel traversal methods. Some of these ideas began taking shape with the release of the 0.7.4.0 update in early November 2024. This update introduced players to a new mountain biome featuring the Ice terrain and Upstreams, which are environmental elements designed to launch players upward during gliding. However, according to TopCat, these innovations are still just scratching the surface of their potential.

The newfound success of Enshrouded has exceeded the expectations of Keen Games. During the December 18 AMA, a company representative expressed that while they had high hopes for the game, its performance surpassed their sales targets. By early August 2024, Enshrouded had already achieved over three million sales—a testament to its growing popularity. This success is motivating Keen Games to expand their team in pursuit of an even more polished gaming experience.

Looking ahead, the game’s success is poised to grow further with the anticipated release of console versions. Enshrouded is set to come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2025, following its exit from early access. The future is bright for Keen Games and the world of Enshrouded.
