NVIDIA has entered the fray to address concerns about the GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs after a series of troubling reports indicated that these high-performance graphics cards were becoming “bricked.”
News has been circulating about the RTX 5090, along with the Chinese-specific RTX 5090D variant, with users experiencing significant issues for several days now. Many have tried their hands at troubleshooting, exploring different solutions, but frustrations remain as few find success.
While a handful of creative solutions have been floated, the majority of gamers and enthusiasts facing this GPU dilemma are still in limbo. The gravity of the situation has reached a level where NVIDIA couldn’t ignore it any longer. PC Gamer reported that NVIDIA has acknowledged the issue, stating:
“We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”

That’s the extent of the official word so far—it’s curt but underscores that NVIDIA is at least aware of the predicament. For those out of the loop, this issue involves affected RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D models failing to display anything on monitors post-driver update. Users report screens stubbornly remaining black.
In trying to fix this, users noted the issue cropped up after installing the latest NVIDIA driver. However, even reverting to an older driver hasn’t been a magic bullet, with the GPU sometimes not even registering in the computer system afterwards. Some have gone so far as to reset the BIOS, yet still find the GPU elusive, both in the Device Manager and BIOS.
The core of this problem remains a mystery. Speculation suggests possible architectural flaws or driver incompatibility, rather than any defect in the hardware itself. Until NVIDIA releases more comprehensive feedback or a patch, a definitive resolution remains just out of reach.
