Stress Level Zero’s BONELAB (2022) has been a hit on the Quest, but fans have been curious about when they’ll get to experience BONEWORKS (2019) on Meta’s newer standalone devices. Good news: it seems that moment is finally on the horizon.
For those who haven’t dived into BONEWORKS on a PC VR headset, you’re in for a treat. This game is a narrative-driven VR action-adventure that immerses players in a world of intricate, experimental physics. It challenges you to navigate environments dynamically, take on physics-heavy combat, and solve puzzles in creative ways.
Brandon Laatsch, co-founder of the studio, recently shared some exciting plans for 2025 in a social media post. Beyond just working on a series of patches to enhance their Marrow Engine physics framework for Unity, there’s a clear focus on bringing BONEWORKS to the Quest 3 and its successor, Quest 3S.
You can catch a glimpse of BONEWORKS in action on the Quest 3 below:
Laatsch mentioned a series of upcoming patches for Bonelab (Patch 7, 8, 9) that will incorporate different versions of Marrow 2, aiming towards a seamless release of BONEWORKS on Quest 3. Along with these updates, they’re beginning early development stages for a new game. The use of x-linking within Marrow signifies a step towards broader compatibility. Though BONEWORKS is closely related, it still presents some unique challenges. Godspeed, Stress Level Zero!
Interestingly, if you’re using a Quest 2 or a more advanced device, you might already be aware of a mod called ‘Labworks,’ which lets you enjoy a taste of BONEWORKS. This community-created extension has allowed eager players to engage with the game even without an official port yet.
Laatsch hasn’t hinted at taking down this labor of love by indie developer ‘volx64,’ which required two years to bring to life. He suggests that the Marrow Engine improvements will offer transformations far beyond what a straightforward port could.
While there is still no concrete release date, we’ll be closely watching Laatsch’s social media updates and Stress Level Zero’s YouTube channel for any fresh news. Keep those updates in your sights!
