Sony is making a bold move by adding cloud streaming capabilities to its PlayStation Portal remote play device. While this exciting feature is currently in the beta phase, access is limited to a select group of users.
Hiromi Wakai, Sony’s VP of Product Management, shared this update on the PlayStation Blog. Alongside enhancements to the device’s audio performance, the update introduces cloud streaming options for a selection of PS5 games.
Over 120 titles available in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog are part of this trial period. Fans can relive adventures in popular first-party games such as “Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart,” “Ghost of Tsushima,” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales,” as well as try out third-party hits like “Dave the Diver.”
Players can enjoy game streaming quality of up to 1080p at 60 FPS. However, this may fluctuate depending on the specific game and the stability of one’s internet connection. It’s worth mentioning that only those who have subscribed to the Premium tier of PS Plus can take advantage of this cloud streaming feature.
All in all, this update signifies a major leap forward, getting closer to what many had envisioned for the PlayStation Portal. Despite this, Sony is under no pressure to prove its worth, as the device continues to enjoy strong sales performance.
