UPDATE: Oct. 11, 2024, 10:25 a.m. EDT — Eager fans quickly snapped up preorders for the much-anticipated PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Limited Edition at major retailers on Thursday, Oct. 10. Even Walmart’s paywall couldn’t slow things down. Now, scalpers are hawking them on eBay for sky-high prices. Here’s everything you need to know from the original report.
The next batch of preorders for the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle is live at major retailers today, Thursday, Oct. 10. This follows Sony’s initial launch, which happened two weeks ago on their PlayStation Direct storefront and sold out in no time.
Preorders were slated to commence at 10 a.m. ET, though Target jumped the gun with a listing that briefly appeared overnight. If you’re worried about missing out, signing up for Walmart+ could be your secret weapon.
If you’re a paying member (non-trial) of Walmart’s benefits program, you’re in luck. You’ll get early access to preorder the PS5 Slim 30th Anniversary bundle starting at 10 a.m. ET. While demand remains high, the membership requirement might thin the herd a little (and perhaps keep the scalpers at bay). There’s no word yet if preorders will eventually open to non-members.
Quick tip: Walmart+ costs $12.95 a month or $98 a year, offering perks like early access to certain sales and events, such as this week’s Holiday Deals event. This sale, running through Sunday, Oct. 13, is a direct rival to Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days and marks the start of Walmart’s holiday shopping period. Further benefits include free shipping, fuel savings, travel discounts, and freebies from streaming services.
If you’re casting a wider net, try Amazon and Best Buy, where the PS5 Slim Anniversary Edition bundle will also be available today.
Celebrating three decades of PlayStation, the bundle features a sleek, disc-free PS5 Slim with a nostalgic gray finish reminiscent of Sony’s original console. It’s paired with a matching DualSense controller, an optional disc drive cover, a vertical stand, and several collectibles, all priced at $499.99.
That’s on par with a disc-equipped PS5 Slim, although Walmart is currently offering it at a discounted $449 during their Holiday Deals event. It’s also $200 cheaper than the upcoming PlayStation Pro, Sony’s mid-generation powerhouse. The Pro sold out rapidly at PS Direct, but you can try your luck today as retailer preorders, including for the PS5 Slim 30th Anniversary bundle, are set to open.
