We’ve been secretly working on some exciting new enhancements for the PS5 experience, and today, we’re thrilled to unveil two significant updates inspired by your feedback: audio focus and the return of the iconic classic console designs for the PS5’s user interface.
Starting April 24, the PS5 system update will be rolling out worldwide in stages, giving everyone a little something to look forward to.
Let’s dive into what’s new:
Audio Focus
This feature is all about enhancing your gaming experience by offering preset options that make those subtle sounds pop according to your personal preferences, especially when wearing headphones. It’s designed to create a more immersive and accessible audio experience for everyone.
In essence, once you activate the audio focus setting, you’ll have a variety of preset options that make it simpler to pick up on important sound elements. Whether it’s in-game dialogues, the rustle of leaves, or chatter in party chats, every detail is clearer, pulling you deeper into the action.
- To turn on audio focus, just go to
[Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus]
. You can also tweak the settings from the Control Center whenever you’re in the midst of a game. -
Choose from four preset focus types to amplify different sounds:
- Boost Low Pitch: Amplifies deep, low-frequency sounds like roaring engines.
- Boost Voices: Enhances voice chats and character dialogue.
- Boost High Pitch: Highlights high-frequency sounds like footsteps.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplifies softer sounds across frequencies.
- Each preset can be adjusted with three support levels (weak, medium, strong), and you can even tweak the amplification for the left and right channels independently, truly tailoring the audio to your needs.
- Important to note, this feature works with headphones that connect via USB or analog jack but isn’t compatible with HDMI connections through TVs, AV receivers, or soundbars.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, so we’re thrilled to reintroduce these iconic console designs to let players personalize their PS5 homepage with a classic twist!
This option will be available under the “Appearance” section in the Settings menu, making your PS5 home screen feel just like one of the classic consoles.
