Just today, NateDrake, a well-known industry insider, spilled some exciting news: the Xbox console exclusive, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, might be making its way to the PS5 in 2025. And that’s not all—another beloved Xbox shooter could be landing on Sony’s console by the end of this year.
Let’s dive into the big news: Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is rumored to be heading to the PS5 this year. Jez Corden from Windows Central mentioned that a trio of Xbox exclusives might be crossing over to the PS5. Titles like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and yes, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition could potentially be arriving in 2025.
NateDrake also hinted at Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 being released on the PS5 sometime this year. He even speculated that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth could debut on Xbox in 2025 and 2026, respectively. Corden added that this could be a significant year for Microsoft in terms of sales.
“If these speculations pan out—and remember, rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, as plans can shift—Microsoft might see record earnings from content this year,” Corden noted. “The company has a massive lineup of first-party content in the works, along with more surprises set for 2025, likely to be unveiled at the Xbox Showcase typically held in June.”
“For various games, versions for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch will probably be available either at launch or shortly after,” he continued. “The developers working on these projects will benefit from revenues and investments that can elevate their future endeavors.”
There has been a buzz about Gears of War possibly coming to PlayStation, with rumors circulating since early last year.
The Gears of War series first launched on Xbox 360 back in 2006 and has been considered one of Xbox’s flagship franchises. Its Ultimate Edition, which features remastered visuals, was released in 2015.
The move to bring Xbox games to the PS5 isn’t unexpected. Titles like Pentiment and Sea of Thieves are already available on Sony’s platform, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are set to arrive later this year. However, what makes the transition of Gears and Halo to PlayStation particularly intriguing is their deep-rooted association with the Xbox brand. That said, treat these reports as speculative until official announcements confirm these ports. We’ll have to wait for more concrete information.
