Devolver Digital and Croteam have breathed new life into a beloved classic with The Talos Principle: Reawakened, now available on PlayStation 5. This revamped version not only enhances the visuals but also adds fresh content and gameplay improvements, making it the ultimate edition for Sony’s latest console. The original game was already a sight to behold, thanks to Croteam’s Serious Engine 4, but switching to Unreal Engine 5 takes it to a whole new level. This transition has resulted in stunning lighting, richer textures, and more intricate environments, all of which truly enhance the gaming experience. Additionally, new quality-of-life features align the game closer to the expectations set by The Talos Principle 2. Included in this package are the main game, the Road to Gehenna DLC, and a new chapter, In the Beginning.
I fondly recall reviewing The Talos Principle on PlayStation 4 back in 2015 and thoroughly enjoying its puzzle-laden journey. Fast forward to 2023, I had the pleasure of diving into its sequel, The Talos Principle 2, which became one of my honorable mentions for the Best PlayStation Games for that year. Though it didn’t top my list—thanks to Digital Eclipse’s The Making of Karateka—it showcased incredible depth. Then, in 2024, I explored the Road to Elysium DLC for The Talos Principle 2. And now, in 2025, I eagerly return to the roots of this fantastic series on the PlayStation 5.
In terms of gameplay, once you start, you’ll navigate using the left analog stick, while the right stick lets you look around, helping you solve the myriad puzzles you’ll encounter. Pressing the right stick allows for zooming, while holding the R1 button makes your character sprint. You can jump with the X button and interact with objects using L2. This interaction includes grabbing cubes, activating switches, as well as utilizing jammers, connectors, fans, and more. New elements gradually make their way into the game, ensuring the experience remains dynamic and engaging over its extensive content hours.
Oddly enough, The Talos Principle: Reawakened lacks a Platinum trophy, a curious omission given the PlayStation 4 version proudly featured one in 2015. Although the trophy list is slightly longer this time, its absence is noticeable to trophy hunters. We’re offered a list comprised of 44 Bronze, 2 Silver, and 2 Gold trophies. New objectives include trophies like LOL, Thrice Holy, To The Stars, and a suite of challenges tied to the Road to Gehenna DLC. Trophies exclusive to the In The Beginning chapter, like And So It Begins, It’s Working, and more, add further goals to pursue.
This rendition of The Talos Principle on PlayStation 5 truly feels like the definitive version. From the visual overhaul and gameplay enhancements to content additions, it stands out as an impressive tribute to the original. Developer Commentaries promote deeper engagement, offering insight while playing. Depending on your familiarity, you can expect a rich gaming session spanning 25-30 hours, encompassing the main game, Road to Gehenna DLC, and the new In The Beginning segment. Ready for a journey of mind-bending puzzles and philosophical musings? The Talos Principle: Reawakened is out now on PlayStation 5.
