Combat Waffle Studios and Beyond Frames Entertainment, the creative minds behind the VR survival shooter Ghosts of Tabor (2023), have exciting news for gamers this week. They’re rolling out a new VR game inspired by the captivating world of Rust (2018), and it’s heading into early access.
Developed by Spoonfed Interactive with a helping hand from Combat Waffle, GRIM is set to deliver Rust-esque multiplayer survival fun to both PC VR and Quest platforms beginning this month. Think of Rust, but imagine its mechanics transplanted onto the barren landscapes of a dwindling Mars. You’re in for crafting and foraging for sustenance amidst the decaying ruins of unsuccessful colonization attempts. The initial version of this game will be available for SteamVR and Quest players from Thursday, January 16th onwards.
Stranded on Mars, GRIM throws extreme weather at you and teases with countless abandoned outposts ripe for looting. Gamers will need to keep a close watch on vital stats, like hunger, thirst, and oxygen levels. Your architectural masterpieces will remain intact within the game’s persistent world, that is, until the server wipes everything clean on a weekly basis.
Having a history with publishing Ghosts of Tabor, Beyond Frames Entertainment is on board to bring GRIM to the gaming community. Meanwhile, Combat Waffle Studios continues to supply development resources and guidance to Spoonfed Interactive, a solo effort.
The developers promise that the Early Access Alpha of GRIM marks “the beginning of a collaborative development journey.” This path is much like the one taken during the launch of Ghosts of Tabor. They’re reaching out to early players to provide feedback that will help fine-tune the game’s mechanics, features, and direction.”
Starting January 16th, eager players on Quest and SteamVR can dive into GRIM’s Early Access Alpha for $20, ready to contribute to shaping the game’s future.
