When a player of The Sims 4 encountered a peculiar situation where their chicken ended up killing the Grim Reaper, it took them by surprise. This unexpected event not only left the gamer puzzled but also sparked laughter among the Sims 4 community, many of whom were unaware such a thing could happen.
Recently, The Sims 4 has been exploring themes of life and death, especially with the release of its latest expansion pack. This update introduced opportunities for players to assume the role of the Grim Reaper, alongside various other additions. However, the curious event with the menacing chicken isn’t part of this new content.
In a snapshot shared on Reddit, a bewildered Sims 4 player recounted how their evil chicken disrupted the Grim Reaper’s routine. Apparently, their Vampire sim had died, triggering the Grim Reaper’s visit to claim the soul. But as soon as he arrived, the evil chicken sprang into action, attacking the Grim Reaper and stopping him from completing his task. The shared image captures the chicken standing its ground between a fallen Reaper and its intended victim, showing no signs of stepping down.
Now, you might wonder what’s the deal with these sinister chickens in Sims 4. Chickens were introduced with the Cottage Living expansion. While typical chickens behave as you’d expect, evil chickens are a different breed altogether and need to be specially developed or transformed from a regular chicken. Despite their forbidding appearance—with dark feathers and glowing red eyes—evil chickens are remarkably protective of their owners. Once a player requests an evil chicken’s assistance, it loyally defends its owner from threats like predatory animals, foes, and even the Grim Reaper.
If the Reaper bites the dust, a replacement will eventually come to finish the task left unfinished. But if the Grim Reaper is merely incapacitated, the evil chicken keeps attacking anytime he regains consciousness, creating a loop that prevents the deceased Sim from being claimed and keeping the Grim Reaper stuck on the property. To break this cycle, players might want to temporarily stash the chicken in their inventory, allowing the Grim Reaper to proceed with his duties.
For the player who witnessed this oddball encounter, letting their Sim meet its end wasn’t part of the plan, making putting away the chicken a less-than-ideal solution. Luckily, various methods exist to revive Sims or deter the Grim Reaper from claiming them. Although the troublesome evil chicken can’t bring a Sim back to life, it can cause enough of a delay for players to enact their own plans, whether that be resurrecting their Sim or convincing the Grim Reaper to reconsider.
In The Sims 4, creativity and chaos often go hand in hand, delivering unpredictable and entertaining experiences. Playing out life’s everyday dramas—or more unusual scenarios involving reapers and chickens—is all part of what makes the game endlessly engaging, providing players with a unique virtual sandbox that feels as personal as they want it to be.
