Snail Games, the minds behind Ark: Aquatica, have pointed fingers at their marketing team for the recent AI-driven trailer release.
Lead game designer Matt Kohl shared with Aftermath that the trailer’s animation was the result of artificial intelligence. Yet, he admitted he wasn’t privy to why the marketing department took that particular route.
“That trailer was put together by our marketing folks,” Kohl explained. “They used our assets and ran them through an AI to create the animations. It was purely a marketing decision. Our development team had no involvement in that process, and AI hasn’t played any role in creating Aquatica.”
This new Ark: Aquatica trailer, an addition to Ark: Survival Evolved, premiered at GDC and sparked quite a reaction; one viewer bluntly commented, “This is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourselves.”
In response, Studio Wildcard, the developer behind Ark: Survival Evolved, sought to distance itself from the situation by addressing it on Twitter.
