Sony has finally made a move in response to the lawsuit filed by Christopher Barrett, a former employee of Bungie.
In its legal documents—revealed through Game File—the PlayStation team shared text messages between Barrett and some female colleagues at Bungie. Sony claims these messages reveal a concerning “pattern of misconduct.”
Barrett exited Bungie in March 2024 following allegations of inappropriate behavior towards female coworkers. He’s now seeking $200 million in damages through a wrongful dismissal suit, arguing that leaving cost him $45 million that he was supposed to receive from Sony’s acquisition of Bungie in 2022.
According to Sony, Barrett was dismissed because he allegedly targeted a junior female employee, who wasn’t on his direct team. Their conversations started innocently enough, but he is accused of crossing personal boundaries by making subtle comments about her looks and showing romantic interest, creating an unprofessional atmosphere.
Sony’s filing includes excerpts from texts and direct messages Barrett purportedly sent to these women.
Barrett’s legal team shot back at Sony’s claims in a statement to Game File, accusing the company of selectively highlighting messages and twisting facts to tarnish Barrett’s reputation and justify his dismissal. They argue that Sony has not provided complete text conversations or substantial evidence to legally support firing him.
Barrett remains confident that once all evidence is out in the open, it will unveil Sony’s alleged plot to push him out and deny him the rewards he earned over 25 years with the company.
