Virtual reality enthusiasts might be familiar with “Blade & Sorcery,” a beloved combat simulation that hit its full 1.0 release in June 2024. But while that chapter closes, the creators at Warpfrog are already forging ahead, teasing a new project that’s set to be as mod-friendly and dynamic as their breakthrough physics-based combat game.
The specifics of this upcoming title remain under wraps, but Warpfrog has hinted to Road to VR that it’s another VR venture. Fans can expect the signature elements that define Warpfrog’s style—immersive physics interactions and an emphasis on simulation—will carry through to this new game.
One thing is for sure, the game will continue Warpfrog’s commitment to modding. Just like “Blade & Sorcery,” this new title aims to provide a flexible platform for mods. Whether you’re using manual mods or the Nexus Mod Manager, you’ll have the freedom to tweak your experience, from adding cosmetic sparks to weapons to integrating entirely new maps and weapons created by the community.
Last October, speaking with Meta, the Warpfrog team revealed they are integrating a fresh framework into their new project. “Blade & Sorcery” stretched their original system to its limits during its early access phase, prompting the need for a new infrastructure.
“We’re eliminating some of the messy code and starting from scratch with a new engine. This new framework will be significantly quicker. It’s the first time we’re creating a game from start to finish with a complete team,” Warpfrog sources shared.
Warpfrog’s growth has been remarkable. Once a solo endeavor helmed by developer ‘KospY,’ the team now boasts nearly 30 members. This talented group recently wrapped up the “Crystal Hunt” story mode for “Blade & Sorcery,” transforming it from a raw combat sandbox into a fully-fledged adventure game. It features a more extensive world, narrative depth, and engaging upgrade systems.
Reflecting on their journey in a Steam news update, the studio shared, “With all we’ve learned over the past five years, we’re excited to reveal what’s next. The support from you, our community, has propelled us to develop even more ambitious projects.”
Needless to say, anticipation is high for what Warpfrog has in store for the VR world next!
