Last summer, Electronic Arts (EA) made a surprising announcement about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor: it would become available on last-generation consoles after being exclusive to the latest systems. Now, just days before its release on September 17 for PS4 and Xbox One, Respawn and EA have shared more details alongside some gameplay footage.
This year, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor initially landed on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. As the sequel to the 2019 hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it continued the epic saga of former Jedi Cal Kestis and his diverse crew battling against the Empire. The game was nothing short of a triumph, securing numerous awards and rave reviews. And now, fans have their first look at how it performs on the PS4 Pro.
EA has provided five minutes of gameplay footage showing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor running on the PS4 Pro. The clip showcases various combat scenes and exploration moments, and I must say, it’s impressive to see how well the game translates to last-gen hardware.
Naturally, adapting the game for the PS4 Pro and older consoles presented some challenges, with compromises necessary when compared to the more advanced versions. The most noticeable trade-off is in the frame rate department. Respawn has indicated that on the PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X, the game operates at 30 frames per second, without an option for 60FPS.
Here’s the breakdown of official performance targets, according to EA and Respawn:
- 1080p at 30FPS for PS4 Pro
- 1440p at 30FPS for Xbox One X
- 900p at 30FPS for PS4
- 720p at 30FPS for Xbox One
These specs are about what you’d expect given the capabilities of these aging platforms. However, keep in mind, the Xbox One version might not offer the best experience. Considering the game’s stunning visuals at 1080p, playing it in 720p at 30FPS isn’t the ideal way to enjoy this Star Wars journey.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor makes its last-gen debut on the PS4 and Xbox One on September 17, and it’ll be priced at a more wallet-friendly $50.
