What’s Happening Now
If you’re diving into multiplayer Ranked play for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, you might have noticed it went live on November 20. However, the excitement quickly turned sour for many players as the leaderboards got overrun by cheaters using hacks to gain unfair advantages.
Over on social media, Activision’s Team RICOCHET confirmed a major hiccup: a data outage had been messing with the anti-cheat systems, reducing their effectiveness. But, they assured fans that the problem has been identified and fixed. They’ve also rolled out some extra measures to fine-tune the cheat mitigation for Ranked Play.
Behind the Tech Glitch
The game’s cheat mitigation system, known as RICOCHET, wasn’t quite up to the task due to a data outage, the developers revealed in a recent announcement. In an update posted on Twitter, Team RICOCHET acknowledged the issue, highlighting their actions to resolve the problem. Here’s a snapshot:
"This past week, Ranked Play went live and yes, we’re on it. Behind the scenes, we’re hustling. We’ve sorted out a data outage affecting our AI systems and are tweaking what’s already in place."
Cheaters Create a Stir
If you recently stumbled across some shady goings-on in Black Ops 6 multiplayer or Warzone and thought it reeked of cheating, you’re not alone. Since launching Ranked Play, the outage had dulled the game’s cheat-detecting AI, letting hackers slip through more easily than before.
Understandably, anti-cheat details from Team RICOCHET can be pretty cryptic, but they make an effort to share updates when they can. Sadly, this issue caught them off-guard, and integration with Warzone hasn’t been smooth. With Season 1 underway, players have loudly protested about unbalanced gameplay and increased cheating.
There’s also tension among console users, who have taken to social media to vent about being forced to play with PC gamers suspected of using external cheat software. On the flip side, PC players aren’t thrilled about mingling with console players either, mainly due to frustrations over aim-assist on controllers.
Fighting Back Against Cheaters
In response to the chaos, Team RICOCHET has patched the data outage that allowed cheaters to run amok. They’ve also tweaked their systems to better catch cheats in Ranked Play, ramping up efforts to sniff out suspicious accounts. Plus, they’ve quickened the pace of investigating replays to scrutinize suspect gameplay more thoroughly.
Activision’s recent research sheds light on player behavior, especially focusing on toxic and disruptive actions in Call of Duty. The cheating issue is most pronounced in the upper ranks of the leaderboards, but only about 0.25% of those caught and banned ever try to cheat again.
As Black Ops 6 Rated Play embarks on its first season, Team RICOCHET has a long battle against cheats ahead. For now, though, players can expect a bit more fairness in their matches.
