Earlier this week, Steel Wool Studios unveiled the release date for the much-anticipated game, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic, set to hit both the PS5 and PC on June 13th. Interestingly, although the game was initially showcased on PSVR 2, any references to PSVR 2 support have suddenly vanished, sparking curiosity and speculation among fans.
During PAX West 2024, attendees got a taste of what Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic could offer with a playtest on PSVR 2. The anticipation was high for what seemed to be a cross between a virtual reality experience and a traditional gaming setup from the renowned XR developers.
Steel Wool Studios, which kickstarted its journey back in 2012 and received a notable $5 million investment from HTC in 2016, has a solid track record in VR gaming. They’ve brought us titles like Hello Neighbor Search and Rescue (2023), FNAF: Help Wanted (2019), and its follow-up, FNAF: Help Wanted 2 (2024).
Yet now, with the release date circled on our calendars, it seems all signs of PSVR 2 compatibility have been erased from every marketing channel. This includes the PlayStation Store page for FNAF: Secret of the Mimic, which previously hinted at PSVR 2 features in archived web pages, but now makes no mention of it.
The only recent nod to PSVR 2 was a now-removed official PlayStation post announcing the game’s release date on February 12th. Beyond this, there’s radio silence from Steel Wool Studios regarding PSVR 2 support, leaving players wondering whether the PC versions on platforms like the Epic Games Store and Steam will feature optional VR support.
As of now, we’ve reached out to Steel Wool Studios for clarity, but are yet to hear back. We’ll keep you posted with any updates on whether the VR mode is simply delayed or if there’s another plan at play for its release.
