Game Science, the developer behind Black Myth: Wukong, is standing firm on their stance that challenges with optimizing the game for the Xbox Series S are the reason behind its unexpected exclusivity to the PS5. Despite what some major media outlets are saying, the idea that Sony signed a secret exclusivity agreement for the game is quite far-fetched. These rumors seem to have gained some momentum due to ambiguous comments from Microsoft, but in reality, they don’t hold water.
Feng Ji, the director of Black Myth: Wukong, recently addressed these claims on the Chinese social media site Weibo, as reported by ResetEra. He took the opportunity during the celebration of the game winning the Game of the Year 2024 at the Steam Awards to express some disappointment about the absence of an Xbox version.
Reflecting on the technical hurdles, Feng Ji mentioned the Xbox Series S’s memory. “It feels a bit challenging given the 10GB shared memory capacity, especially without years of optimization experience,” he explained.
Interestingly, Microsoft has publicly denied being aware of any optimization issues facing Black Myth: Wukong on the Series S. “While we don’t usually comment on our partners’ dealings with other platforms, we can assure you that the delay isn’t due to any Xbox platform limitations communicated to us,” Microsoft’s statement to Forbes read.
With all this in mind, we can finally lay these rumors to rest.
